As a Community Advocate you will help teach daily living skills, provide one-on-one group outings for the individuals in the community as well as monitoring and individual physical and emotional health. You will also assist with everyday tasks such as personal hygiene, household tasks such as cleaning and meal preparation and providing support and training on money management, safety and wellness. The Community Advocate helps provide transportation and assistance to our individuals in support of attendance throughout various activities and programs within the department such as the day program, bowling league, monthly dances and other social interaction activities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work varied and flexible hours to cover shifts as needed
  • Have a positive attitude while demonstrating dependability, promptness and responsibility.
  • Approaches others in a tactful manner, reacts well under pressure, treats others with respect, accepts responsibility and follows through on commitments.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written direction and adapt to changes in methods and policies
  • Must be proficient at the use of a computer and familiar with software required to perform job related duties
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, 21 preferred for transportation
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid, state issued driver s license and current proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Can provide a federally issued social security card that matches current legal first and last name.
  • Must have clean, reliable transportation that has working heat and air.
  • Some experience in providing direct support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities with behaviors is preferred but not required.
